Tailored Workplace Support for Employees and Employers
We provide practical advice and support to individuals with learning disabilities(SpLD), or physical or mental health conditions to overcome barriers to finding and maintaining employment.
Access To Work Support
Funded through the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) Access to Work Programme, we deliver the practical support necessary for the employment of someone with a disability or long-term health condition. You’ll be matched with a support worker to suit your work needs and employment situations, including self-employment.
We provide support for those with:
- a physical disability, for example, if you’re hard of hearing or use a wheelchair
- a learning disability or related condition, for example, if you have Down’s syndrome
- a developmental condition, like autism spectrum disorder
- learning difficulties or differences like ADHD or dyslexia
- an illness such as diabetes or epilepsy
- a temporary condition, like a broken leg
- a mental health condition, for example, anxiety or depression

Supporting Businesses By Providing Employees With Dedicated In-Work Support
Every employer is responsible for ensuring that their working environment is inclusive and supportive of all new and existing employees, including those who are disabled, have a learning difficulty or have mental health conditions.
We offer specialist employment support, training, and coaching to employees of businesses and organizations who seek to support their staff in performing their roles to their full potential. We cover a wide range of support roles aimed at enabling staff members with a health condition or a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) to succeed in their jobs.
Our support packages are tailored specifically to meeting the needs of the business while supporting and guiding employees in their day-to-day roles and tasks aimed at enhancing productivity, service quality, and wellbeing at work.

- Encouraging Social Inclusion Within The Workplace
Support can be funded through the Access to Work scheme by the employee, with or without an employer’s assistance, or directly by the employer. The funds received from Access to Work can pay for any employment support costs of one or more of your employees or new starters who have a disability, learning, or health condition. It applies to any paid job, part-time or full-time, permanent, or temporary and there is no minimum number of hours of eligibility for support under the scheme.

Supporting You In The Workplace
If you have a learning difficulty or a physical or mental health condition that makes it difficult for you to do your job, you should discuss this with your employer, who must make certain changes, or provide reasonable support and make adjustments to ensure you are not disadvantaged in your work. Reasonable adjustments may include providing equipment to help you do your job or helping you to cope better with day-to-day tasks and goals.
Through the Access to Work scheme, Specialist Academic Support can provide tailored support based on your needs, which may include practical support in the workplace, strategy coaching, and mental health support. This support is also be conducted remotely depending on your circumstances.
